Frequently Asked Questions
What devices are supported?
Inkfurrow runs on Macs with macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, and on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 or later.
Does Inkfurrow collect my data?
No. Inkfurrow does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Your notes and settings stay on your device, and if you turn on sync, your notes are kept in your own iCloud Drive by Apple. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Where are my notes stored?
Each note is a plain Markdown file in a folder on your device, and images go to an assets/ folder beside it. You can open these files in any other text editor, and back them up like any other folder. With sync on, the folder lives in your iCloud Drive instead.
How do I sync my notes across devices?
- Sign in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on each device, and make sure iCloud Drive is on.
- In Inkfurrow, open Settings and turn on Sync with iCloud. Your existing notes move with you.
- Do the same on your other devices. The first sync can take a few minutes; after that, changes appear on their own.
If the switch can't be turned on, Inkfurrow tells you why, usually because iCloud Drive is off or you're signed out.
Do I need to know Markdown?
No. The formatting toolbar handles headings, lists, code blocks and more. If you do type Markdown, it is set on the page as you type, and you can fade or hide the symbols in Settings.
What are writer's notes?
A private memo beside each note, for ideas, reminders, or sources. Writer's notes are never included when you export.
Can I write a note in more than one language?
Yes. Add a language as a tab on the note. Each language is saved as its own file (for example Note.ko.md) and shares the note's metadata.
How do I add front matter?
Turn on metadata fields and define a template with dates, tags, draft flags, or custom keys. Inkfurrow writes them as YAML or TOML front matter at the top of the file.
Can I use Inkfurrow offline?
Yes. Every feature works offline. With sync on, changes you make offline are sent to iCloud the next time you're connected.
How do I clear my saved data?
Your notes are files in the folder you chose, so you can delete them like any other file. App settings are stored locally, and deleting the app removes them.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| A note doesn't appear in the library | Make sure the file ends in .md and is inside the library folder. |
| An image doesn't show | Check that the image is still in the assets/ folder beside the note. |
| Markdown symbols are hard to see | Symbols may be faded or hidden. Change this in Settings. |
| Sync with iCloud can't be turned on | Sign in to iCloud with your Apple ID and turn on iCloud Drive in your device settings. |
| A note hasn't appeared on another device | Check both devices use the same Apple ID with iCloud Drive on, then give iCloud a few minutes, especially for the first sync. |
| App crashes on launch | Update to the latest version of Inkfurrow and your OS. If the issue persists, try reinstalling the app. |
